For most of us February means the first full month of being back to school and back to work. While this could easily get you down, keep in mind that February is a great month in Christchurch! Not only is it typically one of the best for good weather but there's a heap of events to keep you occupied whether you live in the city or are lucky enough to still be on holiday and are visiting us here in Christchurch. We've put together some of the things we're most excited about this month - so whether you're looking to fulfill your New Years fitness resolutions or take advantage of the summer weather there's something for everyone.
The Garden City SummerTimes continues this month with the Ingham Lazy Sundays providing free music but there are also some new events kicking off in February. On Saturday the 1st of February The Topp Twins will be joining the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra for laughs, music and pyrotechnics in Hagley Park in the ASB Classical Sparks. This one's fun for the whole family and this year they're supporting St John's Ambulance so it's a great chance to support a good cause. Also beginning this weekend are the Sunday Bandstands. Showcasing Christchurch's talented local brass and pipe bands, Sunday Bandstands will be taking place on the Central Lawn in the Botanic Gardens and near Cave Rock in Sumner so pick your location and enjoy on every Sunday until the end of March. Like all of the SummerTimes shows, it's free so there's no excuses for not getting involved! February also sees the start of the annual Anthony Harper Summer Theatre. This year features The Outwits with their show 'New Zealand Rocks!'. The hilarious team are doing a comedy tribute to Kiwi music - "from the beginning to the Enz". There are 24 free performances in total so there's plenty of chances to see the show - check out the SummerTimes website for more information about dates and times.
