Organising a special Christmas dinner when you are camping away from home can be a bit of a challenge, so we thought we would help out with some suggestions about where to find seasonal produce, who delivers Christmas goodies, and where you can do that last minute shopping!
Christmas Bargain Box - recipes and ingredients delivered
If you get in quckly, you can still order a Christmas Bargain Box to be delivered before Christmas. Delivery dates are 21, 22 and 23rd of December. If you have booked one of our self-contained units, you should have plenty of room to cook. If you are using the communal kitchen facilities, you will need to plan in advance how you are going to manage (and be prepared to share!) Of course we also have our BBQs and you can set up your own if you prefer.
Richard's Real Kitchen - fresh or frozen food delivery or pickup
Chef Richard Till has been whipping up meals each week since early in 2016. He has a new menu each week offering fresh and frozen mains (vegetarian, red meat and white meat options), desserts and more. You have have meals delivered or pickup from one of two locations. Orders need to be in by 10am on the day you want the meal, and there is a handy app you can use to check out the week's menu and place your order.
For Christmas so far, Richard has Christmas cakes (including a gluten free option) for sale and will be open on Friday 23rd December for fresh and frozen meals to be delivered that day. The special Christmas menu will be a three course wonder and according to Richard himself "in the spirit of the season, especially generous".
Peter Timbs Butchery - BBQ meat packs and more
Peter Timbs is an award winning butcher located in Edgeware Village, Christchurch and 129 Farrington Ave, Bishopdale. The Peter Timbs team offer an impressive range of high quality meats with special items for Christmas including hams, butterflied lamb legs, rolled pork, whole beef fillets and more. Get in your order early to make sure you don't miss out!
Berries Galore - PYO or Farmer's Markets
A kiwi Christmas really isn't complete without loads of fresh berries and lashings of cream. We suggest you do some pick your own if you have time, or order ahead from one of the berry farms near Papanui. The Berry Shop at 434 Sawyers Arms Road is not far from us and sells fresh and frozen berries plus delicious icecream and more.
Another great option is Otahuna Berries near Tai Tapu (who also have the wonderful Raspberry Cafe). If you feel like a bit of a drive towards the Peninsula, Kaituna Orchards is another great option with a range of fruit including berries and stonefruit. If you would rather have more options in one place, check out our Farmer's Markets blog post for info on the markets that will be happening Christmas Eve.
